Our Mission
Our mission is to create sustainable and authentic travel experiences that bring together nature, culture and meaningful encounters. We want to make the beauty of the jungle and its wildlife truly tangible – while also raising awareness for the protection of this remarkable environment.
Families and children hold a special place in our hearts. That's why we design our tours so that even the youngest travellers can explore the rainforest safely, excitingly and in an age-appropriate way – with hands-on activities, playful experiences and unforgettable moments in the heart of nature.

Our Values
At KANOPI Treks, genuine encounters, mindfulness and responsible travel are at the core of everything we do. We want to introduce our guests to Sumatra in a personal and authentic way – far from mass tourism and fixed standard routes.
It matters to us that travel not only creates beautiful memories, but also makes a positive contribution to nature and local communities. That's why we work closely with people from the region and design our tours to be close to nature, tailored to each group and crafted with great attention to detail.

Small Groups
Every KANOPI guide is officially licensed by the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA-HPI). That means real training, real accountability, and real knowledge of the rainforest you're about to explore.
We never feed or bait orangutans to bring them closer. Watching them live wild and undisturbed is what makes the encounter so special in the first place.
Every trek is capped at max. 6 people, and groups are matched by fitness level. Book as a family, and your group stays just your family. More attention for you, more calm for the jungle.
A part of every trek flows back into the local community and forest conservation, because the rainforest we share with you is also home to the people who guide you through it.
Team
Mindful. Connected to nature. Experienced.
Our guides are officially certified by the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA-HPI – Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia) and have known the Sumatran rainforest for many years. With extensive experience, local knowledge, and passion, they will guide you safely through Gunung Leuser National Park and provide fascinating insights into nature, wildlife, and local life.

Lead Guide & Local Organization
Pepen
Pepen grew up here and knows Gunung Leuser National Park like few others. As lead guide, he coordinates all tours on the ground and is the first point of contact for everything related to Bukit Lawang.

Guide
Rudi
Rudi has an eye for things others miss – an orangutan hidden in the canopy, the track of a macaque in the mud. His enthusiasm for the rainforest's wildlife is simply contagious.

Guide
Marwan
For Marwan, the jungle is not just nature – it's history and habitat in equal measure. Those who trek with him return home with more than just good memories.

Guide
Ewin
Calm, attentive and always one step ahead – with Ewin, everyone in the group feels safe without ever having to think about it.

Guide
Ipan
Ipan knows how to get even the youngest explorers excited about the jungle – with the right pace, small games and a natural instinct for when it's time to take a break.
