Alongside our jungle tours, we offer a range of day activities that allow you to dive deeper into the world of Bukit Lawang and Sumatran culture. Whether you're strolling through an authentic Indonesian village, cooking traditional dishes together, exploring mysterious caves or rounding off the evening by the river – each activity is a small adventure in its own right. And the best part: most of them are perfectly suited for families with children too.
All activities can be booked as an add-on to one of our trekking tours or as a standalone experience.
Village Tour in Bukit Lawang
Bukit Lawang is more than a gateway to jungle trekking – it's a vibrant village with warm-hearted people, colourful markets and a rich everyday culture. On our Village Tour, we take you through the streets and alleyways of the town, visiting local craftspeople, chatting with residents and showing you what life here really looks like.
For children, this tour is particularly captivating: schoolkids, children playing in the streets, exotic fruits at the market – impressions that stay with you long after you've left.

Indonesian cuisine is vibrant, aromatic and incredibly diverse. In our Cooking Class, you'll learn how to prepare traditional Sumatran dishes – using fresh ingredients from the market, local spices and the expertise of our experienced cooks from the region.
You'll start by shopping for ingredients together at the local market before heading into the kitchen. For families with children, this is a real highlight: even the little ones can get involved – chopping ingredients, weighing spices and of course eating everything at the end!
