Is Jungle Trekking Suitable for Children?
Yes, absolutely! Families with children are especially close to our hearts, and many of our tours are specifically designed with younger travellers in mind. We adapt the pace, duration and programme to suit the age and fitness level of the children in your group. Our guides have plenty of experience with families and know how to keep even the youngest adventurers engaged and safe in the rainforest. For very young children, we recommend the shorter half-day or full-day tours.

When is the best time to travel to Bukit Lawang?
Bukit Lawang can be visited year-round. The dry season from April to October is generally the most comfortable time for trekking, as the trails are in good condition and the weather more reliable. During the rainy season (November to March, typically with one to two showers a day), the jungle is lush, green and impressively alive – though paths can be slippery. Orangutans can be spotted in the wild throughout the year.

What should I pack for the trek?
For our tours, we recommend sturdy footwear (hiking boots or trekking shoes), light, long-sleeved clothing for protection against insects and sun, insect repellent, sunscreen, a rain jacket, and plenty of water and snacks. A detailed packing list can be found on our trekking page. Certain equipment can be rented on site – just ask us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to the most important questions about traveling with KANOPI Treks.
You have questions – we have answers. On this page, we've gathered the most common questions from our guests. If something is missing, feel free to reach out to us directly. We're happy to help personally.

How many people are in a group?
We place great importance on personal, individual experiences. That's why we deliberately keep our groups small – typically no more than 6 people per guide. For families and private groups, we also offer exclusive private tours where you'll have the jungle entirely to yourselves. Just get in touch.

Are orangutans guaranteed to be seen on every tour?
Orangutans live in the wild – which means we cannot guarantee sightings 100%. That said, the forests around Bukit Lawang are well known for their high orangutan density, and our experienced guides have an excellent knowledge of the area and the animals' behaviour. The chances of an encounter are therefore very high. Beyond orangutans, our tours regularly bring you face to face with Thomas leaf monkeys, hornbills, lizards and much more.

Wie läuft die Buchung und Bezahlung ab?
Booking is straightforward – simply contact us by email or through our contact form. After a brief conversation about your preferred programme, you'll receive a booking confirmation from us. A deposit is required to secure your reservation, with the remaining balance payable on-site in cash or by bank transfer if arranged in advance.

What is included in the tour prices?
Our tour prices generally include: an experienced English-speaking guide, national park entrance fees, meals during the tour (depending on duration), drinking water, and for multi-day tours, an overnight stay in the jungle including equipment. Not included: travel to and from Bukit Lawang, personal expenses and optional activities. Full details can be found on the individual tour pages.

Is the trek physically demanding?
It depends on the tour you choose. Our half-day tour is suitable for less active travellers and families with children. The 2- and 3-day tours are more physically demanding and require a reasonable level of fitness, as jungle trails can be uneven, steep and wet. We encourage you to be open with us about your physical condition so we can find the right tour for you together.

Can I cancel or rebook the tour?
Yes, cancellations and rebookings are free of charge up to a certain point before the tour start date. The exact conditions can be found in our booking terms and conditions. We understand that travel plans can change, and we always aim to find a straightforward and fair solution. In that case, simply get in touch with us as early as possible.
